It’s summertime and the living is easy! But before you know it, autumn will be here, the kids will be back in school, and life will be crazy once again. So there is no better way to close out your summer than with a St. Simons Island camping trip.
There are many different places you and your family can get away this summer and go camping. In St. Simons and the Golden Isles getting back to nature is easy as it offers a variety of campgrounds and RV park facilities in the area.
There are also some items that are a must when you go camping but if you’re anything like me you always leave something behind when you’re packing. For this reason, we also put together a list of what to pack for camping.
What To Pack For Camping
It goes without saying that a stay in the wilderness typically requires much less clothing and shoes than you would pack for other vacations, but there are a few essentials you won’t want to forget.
When you’re staying at a hotel and forgot to pack a toothbrush you could just head down to the lobby or nearest convenience to get one; the same can’t be said when you’re in the middle of the woods, miles from civilization. So, before you head out on that St. Simons Island camping trip, consult your checklist and then triple check it to make sure you have everything you need for an enjoyable camping trip.
The sun, heat, and humidity in the summer months can be brutal so when it comes to clothes, choose lightweight fabrics that are moisture-wicking. Fabrics such as cotton tend to absorb the moisture, weighing it down and making the fabric stick to you which is uncomfortable. Other pieces you’ll want to bring:
- Lightweight hat
- Packable waterproof and breathable jacket
- Hiking Boots or Trail Runners
- Polarized Sunglasses
- Water shoes or sandals with good grip
Unfortunately, the wilderness is not known for its fine dining so you’ll probably be cooking all of your meals. Some things to bring include:
- Camping stove with fuel
- Reusable Utensils
- Lightweight, reusable water bottle
- Water filtration
- Dish soap
- Cutting board
- Food and appropriate pre-packaged snacks
- Wash bins
You can’t go camping without the basic necessities, like:
- Toilet paper
- Lip balm with SPF
- Bug spray and itch relief
- Hand sanitizer
- First aid kit
- Toiletries (with a
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Prescription medications you need to take
- Painkillers (just in case)
Camping Absolute Necessities
If you forget this stuff at home you might as well turn the car around:
- Sleeping bags or an air mattress
- Folding chairs and table
